Carsaanyo

Carsaanyo is a place name occurring among the names of districts and settlements in Somalia. Names of this type are often derived from physical features—such as a well, red soil, tree, or valley—that local people use as geographical markers.

Like many Somali names, Carsaanyo may be spelled in various ways when transliterated into other languages (for example: Arsanyo, Arsaanyo). This variation arises because Somali letters such as 'c' and 'dh' cannot be directly rendered into the English alphabet in a standardized way.

The name is thought to derive from the word 'cas' (the colour red) or a lower-level naming pattern in Somali.
