Dishiishe

Dishiishe is a Somali clan generally classified among the major divisions of Daarood. Its members inhabit regions within Somalia and Somali-inhabited areas of the Horn of Africa, with some living in urban centers and others engaged in pastoral livelihoods.

Like other Somali clans, Dishiishe is subdivided into lineages and smaller branches. Clan relationships are traced through genealogy (silsilad awoowayaal, lineage of ancestors), which is transmitted orally and defines the kinship ties linking Dishiishe to other Daarood divisions.

Geography

Members of the clan inhabit various regions of Somalia, particularly in the eastern and northeastern zones. The traditional economy relies on pastoralism, trade, and fishing in coastal areas. Urbanization and diaspora migration since the late twentieth century have altered settlement patterns.

Social organization

Community affairs are typically governed by xeer (customary law), a system of agreements that define diya (blood compensation), collective defense, and conflict resolution. The clan elders participate in peace-building and political dialogue at district and regional levels.
