Sports competition
In two-stage tournaments, teams are initially divided into groups labeled Group 1, Group 2, and so forth. Each group plays within itself, with top-finishing teams advancing to the knockout stage. Division typically follows a draw or predetermined seeding.

In experimental studies, participants are divided into groups to compare effects. Group 1 may receive a treatment, while Group 2 serves as a control. This numerical division facilitates clear data recording.
Chemistry
In the periodic table of elements, Group 2 comprises the alkaline earth metals: beryllium, magnesium, calcium, strontium, barium, and radium. These elements share two electrons in their outermost shell, which determines their chemical behavior.
