Guumeys

Guumeys is a Somali term for an unmarried person, specifically a man of marriageable age who has no wife. A synonym is 'doob'. Both terms ordinarily describe a social condition in which a person finds themselves, not an inherent trait or value judgment.

The term has been linked to the English word 'incel'—a coinage from 'involuntary celibate'—which describes a person who desires romantic or marital partnership but lacks the means to attain it. The Arabic translation is 'عزوبة غير طوعية'.
