Kara is a girl group from South Korea, managed by DSP Media. The group began its career in 2007 and was part of the K-pop acts known for their pop and dance sound.
Kara achieved major success in the Japanese market, where their Japanese-language songs were released and their albums reached high positions on sales charts. The group is considered part of the second wave of the Korean Wave (Hallyu) in Asia.
Members
The group's best-known lineup consisted of five members: Park Gyu-ri (leader), Han Seung-yeon, Nicole Jung, Goo Hara, and Kang Ji-young. The group initially had four members; changes resulting from departures and new additions altered the lineup over the following years.
Music career
The song "Mister" brought the group widespread recognition, particularly through its associated dance. Other songs such as "Step" and "Lupin" strengthened their chart positions in Korea and Japan. The group performed major concerts in Japan, including large-scale live performances.
Disbandment and reunion
Between 2014 and 2016, most members' contracts ended and group activities were halted. In 2022, fifteen years after their debut, former members released new material for an anniversary project. Goo Hara died in 2019.
