A washing machine is an electrical appliance used to clean clothes. It combines water, soap (or detergent), and mechanical motion to remove dirt from fabric. The machine typically has a rotating drum, an electric motor, and a control system that regulates the water temperature and cycle time.

Modern washing machines usually have different programs suited to different fabric types: heavy-duty, delicate, or synthetic. Many also have the ability to extract water from clothes by spinning the drum rapidly, which allows clothes to dry faster.

Types
