Gabuun

Gabuun (also written gaboon) is a Somali word for a type of shrub or small tree found in the arid regions of the Horn of Africa. Like many Somali plant names, its pronunciation and spelling vary by region and dialect; some speakers say gabuun while others say gaboon.

The term belongs to the Somali system of naming plants based on practical use (livestock fodder, medicinal applications, wood for construction and tools) rather than scientific classification. As a result, one name sometimes refers to several similar species, while conversely a single species may have different names in different regions.
