The taiga is a forest type found in the far north of the world, particularly in lands between temperate forest and tundra (treeless, frozen ground). It is dominated by coniferous trees such as pine, spruce, fir, and larch, which have needle-like leaves and are thus adapted to withstand cold and heavy snow.

The taiga is considered one of the largest biomes on earth. It covers vast areas of Russia (Siberia), Scandinavia, Canada, and northern North America (Alaska). The term 'taiga' originates from the Russian language.
